What is the Purpose of this Study?

Anemia is one of the most common clinical signs seen in dogs. Of these dogs, 2-11% have anemia due to iron deficiency. Currently, there is no treatment for iron deficiency anemia in dogs. If your dog has been diagnosed with or has a presumed diagnosis, they may be eligible to enroll! This study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of this newly proposed treatment in dogs who are experiencing anemia due to iron deficiency.

What is a Clinical Study?

When Do I Have to Go to the Clinic?

There will be 3 visits over the course of approximately 1 month.

What Will Happen in the Study?

There will be:

  • Labwork
  • Physical Examinations
  • Assigned Treatment

Is My Pet Eligible to Enroll?

*Requirements for Eligibility to Participate Include (but aren't limited to):

  • Dog cannot be pregnant or lactating
  • Cause of anemia must be a result of iron deficiency
  • Dogs cannot have had surgery in the last 30 days resulting in blood loss, or a planned surgical procedure with expected blood loss.
  • Dog cannot be currently taking any treatments with iron containing drugs, blood transfusion, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy within the last 30 days.

What Do I Have to Do?

You are responsible for:

  • Bringing your dog in for the required visit schedule
  • Monitoring your pet at home
  • Documenting any unusual observations regarding your dog during the study
  • Completing any required study forms
